Such celebration would make people of Pakistan aware about their national heritage as one of earliest civilisations.
ISLAMABAD: After the Sindh Festival, it is desirable that in future, a Sindh Vadi Mela is organised every year. Such a celebration would make the people of Pakistan more aware about their rich national heritage as one of the earliest civilisations of the world that evolved in the Indus Valley. In the book 5,000 Years of Pakistan, it was observed by its renowned author Malcom Wheeler that there was “astonishing sameness of that civilisation, both from place to place with its 1,000-mile stretch and from age to age with its 1,000-year span”. His opinion about centres of this civilisation at Harappa and Moenjo Daro was that these were ‘outstanding cities’.
Most of the areas that were part of the Indus Valley civilisation now fall in Pakistan. The fertile plains of the Indus River and its tributaries form a vital base for strengthening the country. We need to celebrate the richness of the culture of these plains.
