Big Three proposal will only benefit the cricket boards of India, Australia and England but will harm global sport.
ISLAMABAD: The Big Three have won the battle and once again, India has legalised its authority and Pakistan has ended up being isolated from international cricket. Attacks in Mumbai did not harm Indian cricket but a similar attack in Lahore on the Sri Lankan cricket team affected Pakistani cricket badly. The Pakistan Cricket Board has failed to convince any other board to visit the country. The matches for the 2011 World Cup that Pakistan was supposed to host were given to other countries of the subcontinent. Still, love for cricket endures in Pakistan.
The Big Three proposal will only benefit the cricket boards of India, Australia and England but will harm the global sport in the long term. These three countries will monopolise the game and the smaller nations will be badly hurt.
For Pakistan, the PCB’s internal politics has made the situation even worse. The PCB needs to resolve its internal conflicts. Then only can it do something about being strong at the international level. Pakistan has a talented, world class team. It is the board that needs to handle this situation wisely.
