The only dam that can utilise this resource and save south Punjab and Sindh from annual floods has been politicised.
LAHORE: Pakistan is a country which possesses a generous supply of all kinds of resources: human resources, natural resources, fertile land, the Indus River and its tributaries, a canal irrigation system, minerals, a sea shore, moderate temperatures, strategic location, the list goes on and on. Given this, the situation that Pakistan finds itself in is questionable. I will confine myself to giving only one example of the criminal neglect of our resources. The copious flows of the tributaries of the Indus, namely Kabul, Chitral, Swat, Kurram, Siren, Haro and Soan rivers are not being stored to provide millions of acre feet of water for irrigation and thousands of megawatts of power.
The only dam that can utilise this resource and save south Punjab and Sindh from annual floods has been politicised through ignorance and parochialism. How can there be growth in industry and agriculture if this is the way many of our people think?
