Facilitating sports in G-B

Letter February 04, 2014
Even though youth have talent, administration has failed to provide them with necessary facilities.

GILGIT, GILGIT-BALTISTAN: There is no doubt that sports play an important role in the physical and mental well-being of a person, especially the young ones. Indeed, the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) are famous for excelling in sporting activities such as skiing, mountaineering, football and many others.

But, unfortunately, even though the youth have talent, the administration has failed to provide them with the necessary facilities to do what they are good at. The government’s youth affairs department in G-B is somewhat trying to cope with the discrepancies in the field of games, but the most unfortunate factor is the unequal distribution of funds for each district or tehsil in G-B. Many of the local NGOs are trying their level best to overcome the lack of facilities in all the tehsils of G-B, but most work needs to be done. Our youngsters need grounds and equipment.

I would like to request the government to facilitate recreational activities for the youth in G-B, so that they bring glory to the country and stay away from harmful indulgences, such as drugs.
