It is time that our policymakers devised policies that protect the automobile industry.
KARACHI: Pakistan’s automobile sector seems to be reeling from the aftershocks of inconsistent policies implemented by policymakers. The industry is not working at optimum capacity because of low demand. This is because customers have an option: buying reconditioned vehicles imported from foreign markets. Customers often fail to realise that these vehicles come with no guarantees or after-sales services.
This has been detrimental to the growth of local auto manufacturers. It is time that our policymakers devised policies that protect the industry so that it can prosper along with keeping a strict check on imports and generally showing far-sightedness by working for the betterment of the manufacturing sector, which creates a lot of jobs.
