The social gains for allocating resources to basic education outweigh benefits of doing the same for higher education.
LONDON: I agree with much of what Dr Asad Zaman said in his article “The path to the future” (October 17).
The social gains for allocating resources to basic and primary education outweigh the benefits of doing the same for higher education. Hence, it is ironic that we spend so much money on higher education compared to that at the primary level.
As Dr Zaman notes, an overwhelming majority of children leave education at a very early age. We need to realise that our strategic depth is in the quality and skill levels of our population and we should invest in teacher training and educational infrastructure accordingly.
