Bravery, carelessness or conspiracy?

Letter January 10, 2014
Whether this was carelessness of the administration or a conspiracy, will be proved in the days to come.

KARACHI: Pakistan’s history has had many dark days and one was added to our history books on January 9, 2014 when the brave SP CID, Chaudhry Aslam, was martyred in Karachi. This was another big blow, not only to the Karachi Police, but also to the whole nation, which lost a man, who believed in a peaceful Pakistan and sacrificed his life for the same. It was only a fortnight ago when my 21-year-old son told me with great excitement that he saw Chaudhry Aslam from a close range. He was waiting for the bus near Anklesaria Hospital when Chaudhry Aslam’s convoy passed by him, with the great man clad in his customary white shalwar-kameez, sitting next to the driver on the front seat.

While telling me all this, my son was a little worried for the very little security he was traveling with. Only two police mobiles were with Chaudhry Aslam. Whether this was carelessness of the administration or a conspiracy, will be proved in the days to come. But losing a man like Chaudhry Aslam is a great loss for every member of the Karachi Police. My heart cried when I saw a Karachi policeman on television saying he feels orphaned by his passing away. We salute you SP CID, for all the protection you provided to Karachiites till your last breath. Rest in peace Chaudhry Aslam.
