Costly cure for hepatitis C (II)

Letter January 03, 2014
Cost of making one dose of Sofosbuvir, i.e., for 12 weeks, is around $150-$200, which, in my opinion, is not very big.

SOPORE, JAMMU AND KASHMIR: This is indeed good news that a treatment has been developed for hepatitis C. Sofosbuvir from Gilead Science no doubt has high cure rates as per the company data. I guess the main motive of a pharmaceutical company should be to help society overcome the burden of disease. The cost of making one dose of Sofosbuvir, i.e., for 12 weeks, is around $150 to $200, which, in my opinion, is not very big.

One more important thing to consider is that there are several pharmaceutical companies, which are on their way to develop medicines for hepatitis C at very affordable prices. This will definitely help in bringing the cost of treatment of hepatitis C down.
