Danger on the highway

Letter January 03, 2014
Incoming traffic from G-11 sector side creates a heavy rush, which in turn, creates problems for the incoming traffic.

ISLAMABAD: I want to draw the attention of the relevant authorities to the deplorable state of the G-11 intersection on the Kashmir Highway in Islamabad. The highway is being widened and is currently under construction. This has led to some serious problems for the public as the traffic signals on the highway are out of order and on top of that, the highway has a heavy influx of traffic from both sides. The incoming traffic from the G-11 sector side creates a heavy rush, which in turn, creates problems for the incoming traffic from the Motorway and the G-13 sector. Many accidents have occurred as reckless car and motorbike drivers drive past the signals with impunity.

At night, the situation worsens as there are no street lights to aid the traffic in the dark. Traffic violaters take advantage of this situation and violate traffic signals at will. The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) are stationed at the intersection but the do not do their duty properly. We would like to appeal to the Capital Development Authority and the ITP to look into the matter and do the needful.
