Dharnas in different cities of our country disturb routine lives of residents of these cities economy also suffers.
GILGIT: It seems that the culture of holding dharnas as a form of protest is at its peak in Pakistan these days. But to be quite frank, I do not understand what has been achieved by these dharnas. Freedom of speech and protests are part of a democratic country but this right seems to have been abused by some political groups in our country. Opposition parties arrange dharnas in different cities of our country and as a result, the routine lives of the residents of these cities are badly disrupted and the economy also suffers. And all that the parties that organise protests achieve is temporary political mileage — surely, there are better ways to obtain even that, and not by inconveniencing hundreds of thousands of ordinary people who are trying to make ends meet.
If the politicians, both those who are ruling and those in opposition, want to make Pakistan politically, economically and socially sound, they should all sit down and find solutions to problems instead of holding what seems to be an endless series of dharnas.
