People have short memories, they tend to forget who it was who missed the opportunity.
LAHORE: There was a time not too long ago when IPPs (independent power producers) were inducted to overcome the country’s chronic power shortages; but policymakers did not realise that this was at best a short-term measure since the IPPs relied on imported oil whose price was not in their control.
The opportunity that was missed was a project for the long term, such as one that could have used our own water resources, and this would have saved us from the miseries being faced today in terms of load-shedding and reduced GDP growth. People have short memories, they tend to forget who it was who missed the opportunity, and are gunning for those who even today want to reverse the tide but are not allowed to do so.
