The exclusion of the province may create a sense of discrimination among students in Sindh.
SHAHDADKOT: This is in response to the report in your newspaper dated December 19 titled “Helping hand: Germany pledges Rs40 million scholarships for needy students”. Under the HEC-German Needs-Based Scholarship Programme, 200 scholarships worth Rs40 million will be provided for underprivileged students from 10 selected universities. The geographical break-up of the universities is as follows: two in Islamabad, two in Punjab, four in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and two in Balochistan. There is no denying the fact that Germany has been generously supporting various projects in Pakistan for many years, especially those that relate to the country’s social sector development.
Nevertheless, I would like to raise the question that in this programme, there doesn’t appear a single university from the province of Sindh. The exclusion of the province may create a sense of discrimination among students in Sindh. I would request Germany’s ambassador to Pakistan to reconsider the geographical distribution of the scholarship scheme.
