A democratic Pakistan

Letter December 18, 2013
Continuation of democratic governments can lead Pakistani nation towards becoming a prosperous and developed country.

RAWALPINDI: According to the global perspective, a democratic state is considered a police state as well as a welfare state. Hence, all developed nations have meticulously strengthened these aspects of statehood.

In Pakistan, the job of security and development has been initialised successfully since the last five years of a democratic government. The peaceful hosting of a D-8 summit to overcome the economic crunch or the country’s role in the Afghan peace process to secure its interest can both be considered the ultimate results of a successful democratic government. Similarly, expressing opinion on the current water crisis with India under the Indus Water Treaty at the UN forum, pursuing the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline, laying emphasis on peaceful negotiation to resolve internal problems like the Balochistan crisis, long marches and drone attacks has enhanced the beauty of the democratic government.

The process of free and fair election has restored the trust and interest of the dispersed masses in democracy. The credit goes to the completion of a successful period of the democratic government. In a nutshell, the continuation of democratic governments can lead the Pakistani nation towards becoming a prosperous and developed nation of the world.
