Our unsung heroes

Letter December 18, 2013
Soldiers of the soil, like Abdul Haq, are an asset for any country.

MIANWALI: On December 16, 2013, a senior member of the Bomb Disposal Squad team in Peshawar was killed in a roadside blast. He had previously defused dozens of bombs and had saved hundreds of lives, while putting his own life at risk. Abdul Haq, who was to retire in April next year, has now lost his life in the line of duty. Soldiers of the soil, like Abdul Haq, are an asset for any country. I appeal to the federal and provincial governments to grant him a prestigious award for showing exemplary valour.
