Unity needed among politicians

Letter December 17, 2013
If one political party works better than others, politicians should appreciate it. Country's progress lies in unity.

GILGIT: The process of democracy has successfully seen the transfer of power to another government. This transfer has been welcomed by our people at large. Unfortunately, it seems that our politicians have not matured as yet. The people of Pakistan are expecting that the newly-installed government will address the issues of our country. But once again, our politicians are giving us the same taste of traditional politics. Politicians from all parties do not lose a single opportunity to criticise one another.

The current government should focus on its performance rather than on merely issuing statements. If, for once, this government performs better than others — parties would stop practising traditional politics. I do not favour any political party, but preference will be given to any party which will address the issues of our country.

If one political party works better than others, our politicians should appreciate it. The progress of our country lies in unity.

We have examples of developed countries where unity and tolerance are practised. If all political parties are united, then no power in the world can stop us from becoming a strong country. Our political parties should forget their personal interests and enmities. We can make a prosperous and better Pakistan, if we are united.
