ISLAMABAD: The historic success of Waar revealed Lollywood’s hidden potential, which when utilised appropriately, can produce gigantic milestone-achieving films. From the 1960s to the early 1980s, Pakistani cinema produced an enormous number of movies, which were highly appreciated by the public. At that time, directors, writers and lyricists displayed their full creativity and were constantly presenting new ideas. In that golden era, Lollywood was at its peak due to the contributions of some competent actors.
The decline that Lollywood later saw was because of a lack of new and creative ideas. When new concepts were portrayed in movies like Zinda Bhaag, Main hoon Shahid Afridi and then Waar, a huge positive change was observed in Pakistani cinema. When Maula Jatt was released back in the early 1980s, it was a blockbuster, but it also proved to be a dark mark on the fate of Lollywood, as directors and writers started blindly following the gandasa culture, which assumed the shape of a trend that ultimately led to the downfall of the Pakistani film industry. If we try to explore the hidden capabilities of our film industry, then we will be able to produce films that can get immense praise from the public, which, in turn, will lead Lollywood regaining its lost glory.
