Making the people relevant

Letter December 13, 2013
It is also true PPP hardly did anything in this regard; it failed to decrease corruption in institutions run by state.

ISLAMABAD: This is with reference to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s article of December 12 “Personalisation under the guise of privatisation”. The article provides a strong case against privatisation in Pakistan. People in Pakistan do not have social protection, like medical care and education for their children, as well as an insecure job environment in the private sector. Another problem is that in the absence of an effective competition commission, few families are monopolising businesses.

There is the worst kind of working environment in factories. In this scenario, the question of economic development through privatisation is irrelevant because here people are not relevant. It is also true that the PPP hardly did anything in this regard; it failed to decrease corruption in institutions run by the state.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and his team must understand that instead of using the name of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, it is better for them to be more vocal about his message of making the common people relevant in economic and political reforms.
