KARACHI: Ayesha Siddiqa is to be complimented for her excellent analysis in her article the “Political deterrence” (October 17). She is the only person, both in the print and electronic media, who has hit the nail on the head and has the courage to call a spade a spade. The sentiments of the people in the smaller provinces are aptly referred to when she writes: “For the people of the minority provinces, the signal is that the establishment will not allow power to those from the smaller provinces, be it Deedar Shah or Asif Zardari.”
Irrespective of what the media says, a vast majority of the people understand that President Asif Ali Zardari is being hounded only because he belongs to a small province. The court, it has to be said, does seem a wee bit preoccupied with the implementation of the NRO judgment and in that it seems concerned more with how it relates to the president. Achievements of the government, such as the National Finance Commission award and the passage of the 18th amendment, are forgotten and swept under the carpet.
