If any organ of the state acts to block functioning of democracy, it would do a disservice to this nation.
LAHORE: Dr Akmal Hussain in his article “At the edge of the precipice” (October 17) has talked about relevant and urgent aspects which need to be dealt with by the government. Undoubtedly, the economic conditions of the country are grave and there seems to be little or no hope. The writer has rightly analysed that “only a functioning democracy can hope to attract the inflow of foreign aid that is necessary to prevent economic collapse”. Under this context, if any organ of the state acts to block the functioning of democracy to fulfil a personal, political or institutional agenda, it would do a disservice to this nation. Also, it would be right to deem their actions as contributing to the collapse of the state.
