ISLAMABAD: It is very heartening to know that Pakistan is hosting the sixth plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly from December 6-8. This occasion indicates that democracy has started taking roots in Pakistan and every conscientious democrat can take heart from this. This will be the first time in history that over 25 Asian countries are participating in this conference with delegates totalling over 200.
Terrorism and extremism must not become Pakistan’s identity. We are passing through difficult times and this event will certainly help Pakistan gel in the community of democratic dispensations. The majority of Asian countries are either developing or under-developed. The problems they face are similar in nature, which require collective efforts to get resolved. They can learn a lot from one another’s experiences. What better forum could there be for this other than an assembly of Asian parliamentarians to chalk out strategies to overcome their problems? All political forces of Pakistan should fully support this event and the guest delegates should go back to their respective countries with a positive view of our country.
