A bazaar in Peshawar

Letter December 05, 2013
This is the fourth government since 2000 but the condition of Nauthia Bazar is still the same.

ABBOTTABAD: I went to Peshawar last week where I had a chance to visit the historic Nauthia Bazar, nearby the famous Sonehri Masjid. I was shocked when I saw the condition of the said bazaar. In the year 2000, when I was a student in Peshawar, I used to visit the bazaar regularly with a friend during lunch breaks. I noticed that the condition of the bazaar is still the same as it was in the year 2000. The illegal encroachments of shopkeepers have not been dealt with yet. The road was completely blocked by handcarts and all the people were walking on the main road as there was no footpath. The only safe walking area was lost to handcarts and encroachers. It was extremely difficult to drive in that bazaar because of the ill-disciplined traffic system.

This is the fourth government since 2000 but the condition of Nauthia Bazar is still the same. No government has taken steps for the uplift and improvement of this historic place.
