A new Afghan settlement

Letter December 02, 2013
Opening a Taliban office in Pakistan will be no good and might even give rise to other security issues in Pakistan.

FAISALABAD: This is in response to the story “Nawaz makes pitch for inclusive settlement” (December 2). It is a good move on the part of the government to adopt a non-interference policy in Afghanistan. The prime minister’s recent stance on the critical situation of war-ravaged Afghanistan seems a pragmatic one.

Opening a Taliban office in Pakistan will be no good and might even give rise to other security issues in Pakistan. The Doha office episode is witness to the fact that the Taliban are a most unpredictable entity. So, for now, we should remain neutral and wait for the upcoming Afghan presidential elections and for the Afghanistan endgame to take place.
