Combatting sectarianism

Letter November 30, 2013
he volume of the speakers should be just loud enough for the congregation inside the mosque or building.

RAWALPINDI: Volumes upon volumes can be written on how to control sectarian fanaticism, but I would suggest only two measures that I think will go a long way in promoting harmony. The first is that all mosques and madrassas should be brought under government control and their khateebs and nazims be, at least, graduates and masters respectively from recognised universities.

The second is that the ban on the use of loudspeakers be strictly enforced. The volume of the speakers should be just loud enough for the congregation inside the mosque or building and not for the general public outside the premises.
