Why ‘drone ‘em all’?

Letter November 27, 2013
Rather, killing even a single Pakistani by an American drone should be the cause for outrage in this country.

LAHORE: This is in response to Shahzeb Shaikha’s article “Drone ‘em all” (November 25). I am amazed at how a fellow Pakistani could write something like this and feel appalled by the way the writer has justified drone attacks in Pakistan. The lack of empathy on the writer’s part for the innocent men, women and children killed in these air strikes goes to show how immune the people of Pakistan have become. The ‘number’ of civilians killed should not be the issue. Rather, killing even a single Pakistani by an American drone should be the cause for outrage in this country. How dare the Americans send unmanned aircraft into our country, to brutally kill our civilians? How dare they breach our sovereignty and have the courage to look us in the eye and ask us to do more?

Why is the federal government quiet about drones? How many more Pakistani lives will America have to take to force a reaction out of these politicians? Maybe the writer and others of his ilk will change how they think if the Americans find terrorists in one of our metropolises and decide to bombard them.
