Strict action should be taken against officials who are responsible for selection and gauging of fitness of players.

LAHORE: Can somebody in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) explain the responsibilities of the manager, coach and captain of the Pakistan cricket team during a foreign tour? All-rounders Shoaib Malik and Abdul Razzak were allowed to proceed to South Africa from Dubai, although both of them were suffering from injuries. Strict disciplinary action should be taken against officials accompanying the team who are responsible for selection and gauging of the fitness of players.

As for these two players, the cost incurred on their travel, boarding and lodging, along with a fine, should be imposed on them. If this is the competence and assessment capacity of the tour manager, then God help the PCB. Pakistan cricket is going through its worst crisis, with repetitive failures becoming the norm. It is not a dearth of talent, but nepotism, cronyism and the inconsistencies displayed by the selection committee that deny place in the team to talented bowlers and batsman, forcing players like Imran Tahir to abandon their country.
