Mohammed Hanif’s flawed reasoning

Letter November 20, 2013
It is a rubbish generalisation to say ‘Pakistan is lionising Mehsud’. No, not at all. Only far right indulged in that.

KARACHI: This is apropos of Jahanzaib Haque’s article of November 20 “We are successfully being held hostage” (November 20). Mohammed Hanif’s piece that Mr Haque refers to was not impressive at all. He talks about people lionising Hakimullah Mehsud after his death. If we look at Imran Khan’s anti-US stance, it was not at all about the lionising of Mehsud. It is a rubbish generalisation to say ‘Pakistan is lionising Mehsud’. No, not at all. Only the far right has indulged in that. The rest are just angry at the US. Hanif’s rationale that ‘because the whole of Pakistan lionises its tormentors due to flawed reasoning, this means that Pakistan cannot think properly in its own interests, hence, whatever the US does is in Pakistan’s interests, is completely flawed and does not make sense.
