Do as the Chileans do (II)

Letter October 15, 2010
The manner in which Chile’s president was involved in rescue displays priority of leadership on saving lives.

LAHORE: The manner in which Chile’s president and his minister for mining were personally involved in the rescue operation of 33 miners stranded in a collapsed gold and copper mine in San Jose for 69 days displays the priority that their elected leadership placed on saving the lives of their citizens.

Compare this to Pakistan where our citizens are handed over to foreign countries in exchange for monetary rewards. When floods ravaged Pakistan and millions were displaced and thousands died, our president embarked on an extended tour of Europe.

The tragedy is that those who have economically benefitted the most from the opportunities provided in Pakistan have chosen to desert it when the country needed them the most.
