Appointment of NAB chief

Letter October 15, 2010
Some newspapers are unnecessarily criticising the appointment of the new chief of the National Accountability Bureau.

KARACHI: Some newspapers are unnecessarily criticising the appointment of the new chief of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Deedar Hussain Shah, who has worked as chief justice of the Sindh High Court. He was a respected judge and known for his professionalism. When Nawaz Sharif's case was in his court, his advocates had shown confidence in him. In any case, it is the discretion of the president to appoint the NAB chief. The leader of the opposition in the National Assembly was also asked and refused to concur, but that doesn’t mean that he has veto powers over the president’s decision.
