Below-par comedy shows

Letter November 04, 2013
The comments of the comedians are often vulgar and antagonistic against certain races and professions.

ISLAMABAD: Sense of humour of an individual or a nation is a very relevant indicator of the personality or values of a person or a society. Pakistan has been fortunate to have enjoyed highly sophisticated and tasteful humour by the likes of Anwar Maqsood, Moeen Akhtar and Rafi Khawar on television. However, various television channels, lately, in order to outdo one another, are telecasting below standard comedy shows. The comments of the comedians are often vulgar and antagonistic against certain races and professions. Anyone having a dark complexion is targeted and ridiculed. The professions of barbers, tailors and sweepers are also downgraded just to make people laugh.

Above all, the personal attacks on political figures have crossed all limits. Can the ministry of information take notice of this state of affairs?
