My family did not dare go near the mosque for fear of vigilantes, who had assumed unto themselves role of moral police
TORONTO: This is apropos Ejaz Haider’s article “Of holy lies and Lal Masjid” (October 30). At the time the Lal Masjid brigade was busy in its vigilantism, I was visiting Islamabad. My family did not dare go near the mosque for fear of the vigilantes, who had assumed unto themselves the role of a moral police. We, in fact, left the city disenchanted with a society that had eulogised these anti-state elements. I think former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf showed restraint enough for the situation. In fact, I believe he should have acted much earlier.
