Importance of our teachers

Letter October 28, 2013
In our society, instead of thanking those who tries to spread the knowledge they possess, people disrespect teachers.

KHUSHAB: This is just a plea intended to bring into focus the kind of treatment that teachers face in our society. They should not be suppressed but allowed independence to think and reason; they must have distinct privileges in society, befitting the role they have to play, nurturing the future generations. Teachers must be provided with housing solutions, free medical check-ups and convenient transportation. They should play a greater role in formulating syllabi and organising education policy since in our country, they are the ones who know most.

In our society, instead of thanking and appreciating the importance of those who try their best to spread the knowledge they possess, people disrespect teachers. Most uneducated parents often use rough language for teachers — in most cases when said teachers are trying to force their children to come to school. Our education system needs these teachers; it cannot be improved without improving the status of teachers in our society.
