Polio vaccinations

Letter October 25, 2013
This issue requires proper attention as many have lost their lives during polio campaign & is a matter of our future.

ISLAMABAD: The polio issue is very challenging and demands utmost efforts at the governmental level, however, this issue has become more lamented as self-proclaimed guardians of our religion consider it a tactic by the West to increase infertility among our people. The future of our generation is at stake and the government has shown no concern about this issue. As a result, the Taliban have banned polio vaccinations in certain areas and threatened all the staff. In recent times, during vaccination drives, many members of the polio staff were not only targeted but they were also brutally killed by the Taliban to halt their work.

The Darul Afta of Pakistan has finally issued a fatwa in support of polio vaccines as the polio drops are not in any way harmful to the health of children; the vaccination actually protects children from the polio virus which turns into an incurable disease. This issue requires proper attention as many people have lost their lives during the polio campaign and this is a matter of our future.
