Going for peace

Letter October 23, 2013
I believe that what sets us apart from other countries which suffer from inequalities is that we are in a state of war

KARACHI: With reference to Nadia Naviwala’s piece of October 22 “Defining violence and conflict”, I believe that what sets us apart from other countries which suffer from inequalities is that we are in a state of war. We need to achieve peace but attempting to achieve it by stepping over justice, is a mirage.

Killing the likes of the Lal Masjid brigade in order to ‘gain respect’ internationally rather than countering the likes of the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi terrorists, who have actually killed many innocent citizens, can in no way lead to peace. We need to counter criminals, who have actually killed and/or kidnapped our innocent citizens rather than waging a more generalised war that attempts to suppress an ideology.
