Ban on Qingqi rickshaws

Letter October 13, 2013
The government should reconsider its ban and think of alternatives.

KARACHI: I cannot understand why the government first allowed the Qingqi rickshaw to become popular with commuters, and then banned it. Not only were thousands of people using it for their daily commute to work and to carry out their daily errands, it provided employment to several thousand people in Karachi alone. If the government well and truly cared for the public convenience, it could have regulated these vehicles, instead of banning them outright.

The government should reconsider its ban and think of alternatives, given the popularity of this mode of transport.
