KARACHI: Finally, the army chief is stepping down after completing his six-year tenure of leading one of the finest armies of the world. The work that he did during his tenure is highly commendable. He is one of the few generals who did not overthrow a civilian government despite many chances to do so and for that, he should be highly commended.
I think he is one of those leaders who values the system more than he values his own person. If he wanted to stay on as the army chief, he could have done so by putting pressure on the civilian administration, but for the sake of the wellbeing of the country and keeping in mind the constitutional oath that he had taken, he chose not to do so and respected the Constitution.
