Missing NAB chairman

Letter October 06, 2013
Appointing a new NAB chairman is not in anyone’s interest really, least of all for those who sit in our parliament.

LAHORE: The leader of the opposition has said that there is no hurry for appointing a chairman for the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and I agree with him. We are seventh-most corrupt country in the world and till such time the other six who excel us in this field, appoint a credible accountability system why should we?

The only economy we seem to have is the black economy, and an honest and independent NAB chairman will create hurdles in the way of its smooth functioning. As it is, the Supreme Court is doing the same, as are international donor agencies, which compel governments in Pakistan to widen the tax net and impose new taxes. So, appointing a new NAB chairman is not in anyone’s interest really, least of all for those who sit in our parliament.
