RAWALPINDI: As a nation, we have become insensitive. We stage protests against power outages and the shortage of CNG but we have never raised our voices against the barbaric act of abuse of women and children. Unfortunately, we have just turned into a mob. We hear condemnation soon after the incidents, we also hear about suo-motu notices taken by our judiciary, but what happens after that?
The basic reasons behind this growing tendency are promotion of vulgarity and the lack of a swift and just punishment system. A few days back, a 17-year-old son of a senior Chinese army general was sentenced to 12 years in jail for raping a woman. Had we done the same here and punished those who commit similarly heinous crimes and happen to be in positions of influence, it would have sent a very strong message.
