Can these tectonic plates move, release energy and cause deaths and destruction without the will of the Almighty?
RAWALPINDI: This is with reference to the article “Earthquakes and ‘divine punishment’” (September 30). While I fully agree with the writer about the media’s irresponsible behaviour and manner of reporting, his view on the earthquake phenomenon is myopic. He is right to state that an earthquake results due to complex scientific reasons and shifting of tectonic plates below the earth’s surface. But then who is the Creator of this earth and its scientific complexities? Can these tectonic plates move, release energy and cause deaths and destruction without the will of the Almighty?
No one knows whether the people of the area struck by the earthquake were sinners or not and it may not have come upon them as their punishment alone, because only God knows the answers to these questions. We should not, however, look at it from a Darwinian angle alone.
