Government should take legal action against militant groups responsible for devastating attack on church in Peshawar.
KARACHI: I live in a country which is imploding under its own cruelty to its religious minorities. No matter who they are and where they are living, Pakistan’s religious minorities are in perpetual fear. They are not safe anywhere since Pakistan is undergoing a process of exclusion. The massacre of Christian worshippers in Peshawar has focused attention on the predicament of minorities.
The government should take legal action against the militant groups responsible for the devastating attack on the church in Peshawar. Members of the law-enforcement agencies must put their prejudices aside and protect religious minorities who are in serious danger. Defending the principles of equal citizenship, non-discrimination, and disallowing the use of religion to violate the rights of non-Muslim citizens, must be priorities for the government.
This is, perhaps, the only way to protect Pakistan’s ethnic and religious diversity and ensure the security of future generations. If an immediate strategy to curb this intolerance against religious minorities is not designed, then it will be a confirmation that humanity in Pakistan is dead.
