Before criticising the steps taken by NUST people should think of the benefits of such actions.
KARACHI: The recent news that the administration of National University of Science and Technology (NUST) has imposed a ban on wearing jeans or tights on university premises while also making it mandatory for female students to wear dupattas, was criticised by many people on Twitter and Facebook along with certain media groups. Scores of female students tweeted that they never thought NUST would start following Taliban ideology. Some even referred to NUST as the ‘Taliban Markaz’.
These comments make one think that these female students don’t know anything about the problems Western countries are facing now because of the exposing dresses worn by students on university campuses. Western countries have strict law and order mechanisms but sexual assaults and rapes are on the rise. The main reason for this is the clothing worn by women; it provokes men to attack them. Before criticising the steps taken by NUST people should think of the benefits of such actions.
