Resolving the Karkay dispute

Letter September 21, 2013
Govt should see to it that the issue is resolved amicably because letting it linger will send bad signal to investors.

ISLAMABAD: This is with reference to a story published in your newspaper of September 19. The pending dispute between a Turkish firm’s project to bring mobile power generation plants (via a ship) to Pakistan needs to be resolved on an urgent basis. The investor was unable to reach an out-of-court settlement with the Pakistan government and has now approached the World Bank-affiliated International Court for the Settlement of Investment Disputes for damages and compensation. The government should see to it that the issue is resolved amicably because letting it linger will send a bad signal to foreign investors.
