ISLAMABAD: In spite of repeated orders of the highest court of the land, the vacancy of chief of the National Accountability Bureau has not been filled. This is a moral and constitutional failure on the part of the government and parliament of Pakistan. It was widely expected that the government of Nawaz Sharif, who had played a pivotal role in the restoration of the judiciary, will facilitate the process of justice but the post has been lying vacant even after the passage of 100 days of the current administration.
In the presence of a headless accountability bureau my taxes are not protected from being squandered by corrupt government officials. Beyond my personal concern, the country’s international image is also taking a beating, making it difficult for foreign investors to bring their money to Pakistan.
