Blood money is paid if the person is killed unintentionally or by accident.
RAWALPINDI: This is in connection with the article, “Shahzeb Khan murder: Parents pardon culprits ‘in the name of Allah’” (September 9). Every day, we get to hear so many horrifying news stories that it becomes difficult to decide which one should be discussed first or which shall be the most important issue, to be resolved first. I am talking about Shahrukh Jatoi — the person who was involved in Shahzeb’s murder case.
The news of Shahrukh Jatoi being freed really saddened me. It was reported that Shahzeb’s parents pardoned Shahrukh “in the name of Islam” and also, the forgivers got blood money for it. Shahrukh was sentenced to death on June 7 but even then, he knew that no one could kill him because he belongs to a powerful family. This case could have been a good example if Shahrukh had indeed paid for killing someone — and in Pakistan that is usually the death penalty.
Blood money is paid if the person is killed unintentionally or by accident. I am the voice of the many people who have lost their hopes and trust in the law.
Stories involving kidnappings and murders have become really common now. The authorities need to take strict actions and serious notice of these issues.
