ISLAMABAD: The crux of the All Parties Conference is talks, not guns. One hopes and prays that a positive outcome is visible soon, though nobody knows as to who would represent the Taliban’s side and where all of these negotiations will take place. It will be an important day when the men who matter will see the cruel killers of humanity sitting beside them. However, I disagree with Zahid Hussain, who says that acceding to talks with the Taliban is tantamount to surrendering on the part of the government. It is the political leadership that has its hopes high in good faith and possibly with good intentions, only to get the country out of trouble. But as far as the hunch goes and experience speaks, the talks are bound to fail and there is nothing left to lose as far as the state is concerned. A final battle will have to be fought, once and for all, with all our forces combined because if this doesn’t work out then there is only one thing left to do — fight them out.
