RAWALPINDI: Apropos of your editorial of September 8 “An elusive peace”, regarding the chief of army staff’s (COAS) ‘landmark’ speech at the Sui Military College on the Defence Day of Pakistan, it was wrongly reported that General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani had visited Sui only once since 2007, whereas the COAS has visited the area a number of times.
One remembers that he himself inaugurated the Sui Military College and on another occasion, he announced that work on the building of a cantonment will be stopped and ordered that it be converted into an educational city. One believes that General Kayani’s interest, as well as his contribution towards changing the lot of the people of Balochistan and building its development infrastructure, is huge. He has taken special interest in educating and training the youth of Balochistan, offering them special quotas in the armed forces and urging them to lead from the front.
