The easy way out — always

Letter October 08, 2010
Our current mindset and way of thinking will not allow us to get very far – unless we change.

ISLAMABAD: Dr Pervez Tahir’s article “The case for and against flood tax” (October 8) makes several valid points. Sacrifice is a rare commodity in a Pakistani. We want others to pay for what we enjoy. Everyone waits for a saviour to bring change to Pakistan but no one wants to take the initiative himself. Everyone condemns the government but no one wants to stand in the sun and protest and risk losing their jobs. We want the easy way out. Revenue generation is no different. Let the Americans, the IMF and the salaried minority pay for everything. Our current mindset and way of thinking will not allow us to get very far – unless we change.
