Maulana Fazlur Rehman's students and the armies of Taliban they help produce are tearing us apart today.
KARACHI: Maulana Fazlur Rehman, chief of his own faction of mullahs, has ostensibly remained in near-permanent opposition to all military and secular governments. This has never deterred him from being well on the right side of the fence and in near-permanent gain of perks and privileges. So powerful has his opportunistic and nuisance value been that he and his extended family have, over the years, benefitted vastly more than the Islamic limitations of his calling could ever countenance.
He has been an MNA three times, chairman of the Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges and a near-permanent chairperson of the Standing Committee on Kashmir. The Kashmiris, like us, will forever remain relieved of relief. The students of his extensive madrassa chain, and the armies of homicidal Taliban that they have helped produce, are tearing us apart today.
