The Syrian conflict

Letter September 04, 2013
Even if Obama is shamed into following Mr Haider’s wisdom of not intervening, all expected scenarios are deadly.

NEW YORK: This is with reference to Ejaz Haider’s article “A trip to Kramerbooks, Mr Obama?” (September 4). The writer’s advice to US President Barack Obama, as wise as it may sound, misses the point. Take a pause. What is going on in Syria is a proxy war between Saudi Arabia and Iran. Does Mr Haider have any advice for these countries so that they do not take this war within Islam — a war that has been around for more than 1,400 years — to a point where, regardless of what happens and who does what, the only blood that will continue to spill is the blood of the Syrian people? Even if President Obama is shamed into following Mr Haider’s wisdom of not intervening militarily, all expected scenarios are deadly.
