The media will continue to portray Pakistan in a negative light because that is what constitutes news.
KARACHI: This is with reference to M Bilal Lakhani’s article “How to write about Pakistan” (August 29). When a dog bites a man, it is not news, but when a man bites a dog, it becomes news. What Mr Lakhani wrote came straight from the heart, but the media fraternity, especially the international media, will continue to portray Pakistan in a negative light because that is what constitutes news.
When it rains, the media will show water-choked roads and people treading in knee-deep water but it will not show the green trees, people enjoying the rain despite the difficulties it causes, and the dust being washed away by the rain. When one’s inner self turns dark, how can brightness emanate from it?
