Pakistan’s India policy

Letter August 26, 2013
What I fail to understand is how a country 10 times bigger than Pakistan can be expected to reduce its expenditures.

DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, USA: This is in connection with your editorial “Recognising the shift in Pakistan’s India policy” (August 25). Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has called for defence expenditures in both countries to be reduced, which has been commended by the editorial. What I fail to understand is how a country that is 10 times bigger than Pakistan can be expected to reduce its defence expenditures, when it has ambitions (right or wrong) of becoming a major world power.
